searching for a healthy life

My search for real health really began after my mother died of brain cancer at the age of 78 in April of 1999. She had lived a normal and what was considered a healthy life, and once the cancer was discovered she died in 3 months time just as the doctor prescribed with no hope or prescription offered. …

Our Creator Provides

I am trying to get more into natural living. It has always been an interest of mine, now its a passion. Making my own hair products, cleaning products, natural remedies and cooking from scratch is so rewarding and cost effective. I've always felt that our Creator has given everything we need on this earth to survive and I'm having a ball finding out what those things are.

Adverse Drug Reactions

Let's say that an automobile manufacturer produces a car which randomly accelerates in traffic, or suddenly slows down on the highway --- if you drank grapefruit juice yesterday.

  • What if the car suddenly accelerated in city traffic because you had lemonade at lunch?
  • Or…

Saving Money On Food

[Guest Post by Susan West Olvera. ]

Saving Money On Food

Our weekly food budget (for a family of three with food intolerances) is about $30.00 a week.  Our food is not all organic, but we do our best. I will not purchase conventional apples, strawberries, or tomatoes.  We try very hard to make ethical food choices. …

Oil Pulling

I'm not a fan of oil pulling IF one has mercury (silver amalgam) fillings in their teeth.

For many years I have known of many people doing oil pulling who LOVE it. I've also heard over the years about people who have loosened their amalgam while oil pulling, and I recognize that heated oil will draw toxins, including heavy metals, from the amalgam. It is the mercury vapors which are the issue.

Take a look at this video of mercury vapor escaping from…

Gout

What experience do people have treating gout with diet, exercise and natural substances?

Can it be cured entirely if it's genetic rather than the result of being obese?

stomach acid

I fail the beet test.

A chiro that I was working with prescribed zinc tincture- a LOT of it, but I can't stomach it!  It triggers my gag reflex!

I would like to try daily lemon water and B12 instead.  How much how often?

Thanks!

Juicing vs. Smoothies

Do you know what the differences are in the benefits of juicing vs pulverizing?

I would have thought that using the whole food would be best (and you get all the fiber), but I've recently been hearing that juicing has distinct advantages.

I welcome any info people may have about this.

Gallbladder symptoms?

I'm curious about what I suspect to be gallbladder/stone symptoms. About 6 months ago I started taking a bile thinning supplement (Biotics Beta TCP) and recently I've started experiencing gradually worsening digestive symptoms, nausea, pain under the right ribcage, etc. I'm wondering if this is common when we begin to thin out previously viscous bile and if it's possible that I'm potentially loosening up the sludge and having sort of a "herx" reaction. Thanks for your thoughts!

Tree Nut Allergies?

Nut allergies have a high risk of progressing to anaphylaxis, a life-threatening allergic reaction. Many people have a cross-reactivity to the similar proteins in all tree nuts: almonds, walnuts, pecans, cashews, hazelnuts, Brazil nuts, chestnuts, pine nuts, Macadamia nuts and pistachio nuts.

Cashews are the second most common nut allergy. Cashews are closely related to pistachio nuts, mango and poison ivy allergies.

Walnuts, pecans and hazel…

What is happening this week...

Change is hard. Not impossible though. I am gearing up to clean up the kitchen and our meals. I need to. How many years of "needing to"? Maybe 3 years of conscious awareness of needing to, and at least 20 of carefree indulgence and reckless consumption (and stress). Thankfully this time around, my husband is also ready so I have his support. I think it helps tremendously not to have to do this by yourself, in a family environment. Watching Fat, Sick, and Nearly Dead, you'll note that those…

Sauerkraut!

Just made a batch of sauerkraut, and despite my initial concerns of it being to salty, it is just right! Whooo hooo! Got Kraut!

I can't believe the probiotic tubs of it sell for $5 in our co-op. Sheesh. It's just cabbage! I used some of the brine from the co-op batch to get some of the lactobacillus in. Not sure if that is useful or not. I was sort of thinking along the lines of yogurt making.

I tasted it today, after adding some dill and one shaved clove of garlic. It is…

Change

Sometimes changes takes years. I can see I've been circling the healing diet for several years, waiting for something to help make it easier to abstain from certain foods. I've used my role as mom (chef), finances, life stress, etc to avoid change: "Nobody will eat this, I'll eat alone all the time, I'll have to cook two meals (mine and theirs), I don't have money for all the veg I'd go through, I can't handle this right now!" Or my husband will come home with chocolate cake or boba…

10 pm bedtime club

Hi there.  This is my first post to a community blog (ever!) so forgive me if I don't get this quite right the first few times.

Re the 10 pm bedtime club invite, I am so in!  I am delighted to know there are others out there who head to bed by 10 or maybe even earlier sometimes.  Over the past few months, with some significant changes in my life, I have had the opportunity to let my body recover from about 2 and a half years of incredibly stressful work.   The most wonderful…
