Winter seems like a time when everything green from my garden is coming out of my freezer. We do have some collard greens in the garden and they lasted well into December. But now everything is frozen and snow covered. So this is when I get out my sprouts. I enjoy sprouts in salads, in stir fries, and I want to try bread for the boys using some sprouts. It is a treat, so I save my sprouting for winter. Here is a picture of some of my mung bean sprouts. I love mung bean sprouts as they…

I loved Michael Pollen's books. He so eloquently explained why we should "Meet our meat."
Some people don't want to know. He pretty much makes the point that it is irresponsible to NOT know your food. Knowing the animals, how they live, and how they die, ensure they are being treated humanely. You also get to make sure they aren't full of drugs. Maybe some gratitude towards them is in order, rather than turning a blind eye or…

In a hurry, as usual, I picked up the only brand of parchment paper in the regular grocery store: Reynolds.
On the box it says "No Added Grease or Sprays", which at the time I didn't notice, because I thought parchment paper was all the same.
Today I was wondering why it felt so slippery, wondering if it was teflon, which I refuse to use in cookery. I called their 800 number and asked. No it is not teflon, but silicon coated. Ewww!
Why isn't this on…

I am 43 years old. I grew up on a farm and we used all kind of pesticides. Looking back on it, we also ate very unhealthy. An average breakfast consisted of homemade biscuits with syrup, grits, candied figs, well you get the picture.
I think my problems started around 14 when I started having irregular periods. I gained 40 lbs over the summer one year. I soon figured out that If I dieted and ate no carbs, I could make my peroid come. I still didn't make the connection. So I…
