MTHFR?

Must look at current research in PubMed. MTHFR just identified around 1998, variants in 2001 and 2003. 35-50% of Americans affected with this gene polymorphism. Mandatory folic acid fortification in our foods since January 1, 1998.

Kefir and scobies potentials

Greetings all,

I am an enthusiastically and sharing user of milk kefir for a few years now, learning first from The Dom's wonderful website, his forums, and Marilyn the Kefirlady's forum. From there and my own experimentations am thoroughly enjoying our adventures with kefir and its healing powers. Pictures of the development of my giant kefir which several of us variously labeled as Kefirzilla, Kefir Manna Colony, and other suggested names, may be seen at:…

Food Has Power

I believe we are meant to gain our nutrition from whole foods.

Dietary vitamin B6. B12, folate to decrease pancreatic cancer risk:

“Researchers exploring the notion that certain nutrients might protect against pancreatic cancer found that lean individuals who got most of these nutrients from food were protected against developing cancer. The study also suggests this…

Green Smoothie challenge

14 day green smoothie challenge. I saw on facebook this starts Monday, December 6; only eat green smoothie in the morning. Sounds good to me. I hope to post what my green smoothies consist of. I like Hallelujah Acres barley max, so I'll include that in the smoothie, plus, greens and frozen fruits - maybe some soy protein powder and fresh cut ginger - YUM - thanks for the challenge - good to have goals. : )

I still want to lose about 5 or 6…

Whole Food Heals

Mercury issues can be passed from mother to child, depending upon when mom's amalgam fillings were placed or removed, and whether mom's detox pathways are open or blocked. Nutrient deficiencies create blocked detox pathways. (And 50% of the population has a genetic predisposition to blocked methylation detox pathway with the MTHFR gene polymorphism.)

Most Americans have nutrient deficiencies, even and especially in the presence of multivitamin supplementation.… Continue

Very acidic urine - any ideas out there???

Hi all,

I was wondering whether anybody can help figure out what is going on in my body:

About a year ago I did a live blood cell test and, among other things, it revealed that my body was quite acidic.

The doctor gave me alkaline, which I took every day when the test strip showed high acidity levels.

I cut out all refined sugars and kept testing. It got a little better and after some months I stopped testing and taking the Alkaline.

Now I got another… Continue

Mastitis

I'd focus on magnesium sources, Nettles infusions are great, as are Epsom salt baths and Epsom salt compresses for comfort. Food folate, again such as in the Nettles or green smoothies will help the PPD and natural detox pathways. Bone broths are another wonderful source of minerals to support the immune system.

Whole food probiotics, rather than bottled, provide more different strains of microbials in larger amounts. Milk kefir (or water kefir is dairy free) has tons of probiotic… Continue

How To Stay Healthy In The Cold Season

And here we go again - the cold season has started, and with it the runny noses, sore throats and the fear of the flu. Many people believe that there are more germs flying around in the cooler weather, which is not true. It's the fact that we spend more time inside, with typically very dry air, which makes it easier for viruses to pass through the skin, eyes and nasal passages

There are many discussions going on right now about which vitamins to take during the cold season to…

OK, the time has come

We each come to the time to change nutritional behavior in our own ways. In the past, I never had any problems with foods except a known allergy to Soybeans. Now, it seems that every turn in the road has something. A common theme is the difficulty in changing the whole family's approach - wait a minute - my health is on the line! Time for mom to take care of mom!

Now the question is - where to start without setting the whole system into an uproar? I expect there will be some…

Group Buy

I was looking for people need raw almonds, they were just picked from California and taste like nothing you have ever tried before, cashews, chopped dates, organic extra virgin coconut oil, raw flax seed, raw pumpkin seeds, raw sesame seeds, sunflower seeds and walnut pieces. The prices are super low for these items because I am ordering them in large amounts. Please contact me at cdross@comporium.net if you are interested.

bragg's amino liquids

We've been using this product for a while, then I heard there was something wrong with it. And now on here - http://www.passionatehomemaking.com/2009/09/choosing-a-natural-soy-sauce-why-braggs-liquid-aminos-is-not-it.html - I read there are healthier alternatives.

Evidently the way it is processed produces MSG. I…

Colon Cancer

There are many options. Food folate (not synthetic folic acid), magnesium and black seed oil and whole food probiotics are major health supports to counter cancer of any kind, but specifically colon cancer.

Take Ten Challenge!

The Lara bars have inspired me. I have a gorp mix which I take whenever we leave the house - instant portable nutrition. So, I finally made the Lara bars with dates (remember to remove the seeds, they are hard on your food processor. ask me how I know...) and tossed in my gorp mix. OH MY!! fabulous!! delicious!! Amazing!

There was some old Chinese theory of food that we should eat a variety of 31 different foods every day.

So, I counted and there were 15 different…

tetanus vaccine?

For starters, wounds that bleed well are hardly at risk of tetanus. Tetanus only grows in an anaerobic environment. For any future ACTUAL tetanus exposure, Immuoglobulin could be offered at the time of any serious injury. It would only be offered IF it were a very dirty cut, which hadn't been cleaned for a long duration, or a crush

injury. Developing tetanus is quite difficult unless…

Honey

"Honey" - Do be aware that most honey has been heat pasteurized. Raw honey has amazing antimicrobial benefits and even probiotic benefits - including bifidum, the predominant microbial in the young human gut. As we age, we lose bifidum as the dominant microbial. (or as we lose bifidum in the gut, we age?)

Bifidum is in some honey and in breastmilk. Otherwise, I have heard there isn't another natural source. The "source" for inoculating our human gut at birth is breastmilk. Proper ph…

Pancreatic cancer

While researching for my mom who had pancreatic cancer, I learned about Nigella sativa. If you don't know of it, it is an old traditional middle eastern medicinal food called black cumin seed. Here is a bunch more of the research I found about the health benefits related to pancreatic cancer.
