I need some water kefir grains. Can you mail me some, or do we need to meet somewhere? I live in Skagit County, roughly one hour north of Seattle.

Hi Kelli,

I would love to get some water kefir grains from you! Would you mind mailing some to me, and I will take care of shipping/handling costs?

What type of water are you using? I live in Northern Ca as well, and use a Multi-Pure filter. However, my kefir grains are not reproducing, and I think they are puttering out! I've also tried using Arrowhead Spring Water, but same thing. Any suggestions you have would be so appreciated!

Hi Kortner... I live in Woodland (north of Vancouver), but drive into Vancouver all the time, and often into Portland or Hillsboro (will be in Hillsboro on Saturday). I would really like a new batch of water kefir grains! Like Peggy's, mine won't reproduce, and the few that I had, I managed to neglect too long. I have spring/well ?? water that I thought would work fine, but apparently I need to find a different source.

Anyway, I'm willing to pay shipping, or pick up.
I would love to start brewing kombucha! I sent a friend request so we can exchange info.

you definitely don't want to use filtered water for water kefir. It doesn't have the necessary minerals. Spring water should be fine, but not purified. What are you putting into your brew? I've had good luck with Dom's ginger brew recipe, but it's not as versatile as something more basic like his two basic recipes.

Thanks for responding, Merina. I went on several sites to find out what I could do to keep my kefir grains healthy and viable. From what I have read, filtered water is okay as long as the minerals are not filtered out (which is the case with the Multipure filter I use). It might be that the chloramine isn't completely filtered out...

I am also using unrefined organic brown sugar with a piece of dried apple. At this point, I am keeping it as basic as possible to keep these grains alive! I'm going to try other types of bottled water, and if that doesn't work, just find new grains. Again, thanks for your suggestions!
