From Patricia Lacoss-Arnold of LovingOurGuts:

  • When I first learned about traditional foods the aspect that seemed the easiest to learn was making broth. Broth is used in may "regular" recipes so it did not seem weird like organ meats or hard to make like sourdough. I began with chicken broth and soon was incorporating it into many of our meals. Over time I learned to make other broths and new ways to use broth. Then in 2009 my family began the GAPS diet and our broth drinking, and my broth making, went to a whole new level. I learned more about what makes broth beneficial to health and healing and how to maximize those aspects of nutrition in the broth that I make. I learned that broth can be made from many different kinds of animals and in many different ways. Over time I have used many different methods of making broth and I share most of them in this book.

Broth: Elixir of Life is a comprehensive discussion of all aspects of bone broth. Broth is a substance that is ubiquitous to all human cultures. It is found in remote rural villages and 5 star restaurants in crowded cities. It contains nutrition in an easily assimilated liquid form that is necessary for human health and vitality. Broth is a fundamental part of an economical real foods diet. It stretches the budget by reducing, but not eliminating, the need for meats, while simultaneously increasing health. Forget an apple a day for good health, how about a cup of broth a day!

Broth: Eixir of Life is sure to have ideas for those both new to broth making and for those who have been making it for years. This book describes broth and its benefits. The book also dedicates a chapter to how to get more broth into reluctant children (and adults). It includes a variety of methods for broth making that are sure to fit any lifestyle. The wide variety of flavor possibilities is explored while making the basics of cooking broth simple to understand and adapt to your own situation.

Of course, no book on broth would be complete without some recipes for soups and other dishes that include broth. From the hearty Lamb Stew to the exotic Thai Chicken Soup to the family friendly Cheeseburger Soup there is sure to be a recipe to please any palate. In addition, the book also contains three grain free bread recipes. All of the recipes in this book are gluten free and most of them are also grain free. This is truly a book that everyone can use.
