Can I pick it up from you? I have fermented garlic, carrots, and/or cauliflower if you're interested. Only the garlic stays submerged ALL the time. ;)
Sure, any time pretty much. Other than Tuesday, we'll be home. Just give me a call.

Hi, Pat, I'm pretty new here, but I emailed you via the Mothering boards about this and haven't heard back. Maybe I was supposed to come here to ask. I am very interested in a SCOBY to try. I've been culturing cow milk kefir for a month or so now and am wondering how kombucha would help me. I'm not nursing right now, but do have at least one mercury filling. I had about 5? replaced this year - and doubtfully replaced the proper way. Anyway, I'm not pregnant, either, and would like to help my body heal. I wonder if kombucha could help me. Let me know how I can get you the $2 and my address :) Thanks!

-Annie
I'm so sorry you didn't receive my reply. I sent it to your 'yahoo' email address which was attached to your original email to me. Here it is.

Annie,

You are welcome to a scoby. I'd encourage you to consider focusing on the kefir and other gut healing nutrients, however. Having multiple ferments is a bit of a hassle to keep up with, sorta, if you don't want to take it on at the moment. The priority is addressing nutrient deficiencies, before kombucha, imo. The kombucha kills off candida and increases detoxification, both of which require effective detoxification nutrients to remove the toxins from circulation.

We have plenty of scobys. And we'll have more scobys a month from now, and a month after that, and a month after that, no worries!

Do write up your and your son's health history. There are many alternatives to help! But, I'm glad to send you a scoby, if and when you want one. >>

I would be cautious about kombucha after having 5 mercury fillings replaced this year. There are nutrients to help bind and escort the mercury out safely, vit C, selenium especially. Magnesium, B6, B12, zinc also.

Pat
Jessica,

My carrots are almost gone. I had two garlic pieces yesterday. I have the cabbage in the refrigerator now. They were in the cupboard for about 10 days? I'm scared to try them??

The pickles are yummy.

Hi, Pat, thanks for getting back to me - I forgot that my Mothering linked email was my old email address. To be honest, I was sort of not sure how well I'd handle two ferments, so maybe I'll wait on the kombuch and just stick w/ kefir.

I wouldn't say I notice any particular effects/problems from having had the fillings removed, but is it sort of assumed that they usually do cause problems, even if I don't notice them? I'm getting O/T - will look around and see where I can post an intro.

Thanks so much for responding; I'm so sorry I missed your original email back to me!

Not everyone has huge problems clearing mercury. But, removing five fillings without safety protocols is a large exposure. The body stores mercury into our organs, brain and gut to protect us from excess mercury circulating around. The issue is getting rid of the mercury safely.

Pat
Hi Pat are you still offering scoby's? I have RA and severe Candida and am on diflucan (which so far is the only thing that is helping to control it). I buy the kombucha drink as often ad I can but it is very expensive but love the stuff. 10 years ago I had a mushroom but did not have any guidance in how to make it so after a while I got rid of it! Anyway, now I am much more knowledgeable but I don't know anyone around here that has them. I would gladly help pay for postage if you want to send me your information to my email. Thank you, Karen
Karen, it is too hot to ship the live cultures at the moment. It is in the mid 90's here and they won't survive that heat for 2 days in transit. If you are a member of MDC, they have a swap forum. Someone who lives near you may have a scoby available. http://www.mothering.com/discussions/showthread.php?t=517191&hi...

However, it is my opinion that 'candida is our friend'. Long story short, candida sequesters mercury out of blood circulation and binds with the mercury. When we kill off candida, we re-release the mercury INTO our blood to redeposit into our organs, brain, gut, fetus and breastmilk. Making candida obsolete requires correcting nutrient deficiencies to optimize our natural detoxification pathways to excrete mercury and other toxins effectively and safely. These nutrients are available in whole foods. Rebalancing the gut microbials is a concurrent goal and whole food probiotics are ideal, imo.

But, we must optimize the detox pathways AND support gentle, natural detoxification, not flood the body with more toxins than it can excrete, otherwise they just circulate and make us feel like crap ("die-off"), and damage our body further and redeposit again and again.

So, I would suggest writing an "About Me" thread with your health history, include whether you or your mother have/had mercury fillings in your teeth, whether you are nursing, diet restrictions, cravings, sleep, supplements, testing done, medications, chronic issues, etc. We'll certainly have questions and food for thought to share.

I am of the belief that the body can rebalance and heal itself with supportive nutrients. The western medical paradigm believes in attacking the problem/suppressing symptoms, without addressing the underlying issue. Therefore the problem/symptoms keep returning. My focus in on healing the body naturally, so that the problem does not need to be attacked again and again. I trust the body.

Thank you for the response. It is in the 90's here too way too hot for this time of year imo. My candida is systemic thanks to the allopathic treatments for my RA (rheumatoid arthritis). I have tried diet and natural ways of eliminating candida but my symptoms are severe and devastating not to mention very embarassing - it wasn't until I started on the diflucan that I started to see improvement. I no longer take methotrexate (chemo drug) or steriods for the RA instead am using homeopathic remedies and low dose naltrexone. I am starting on the Specific Carb Diet (just got the book) to help my gut although I love your version and think I will start with that. I can handle 14 things fairly easily. I just read about bone broth and made a batch this week it's so delicious and easy..

I have a question about what is fermented CLO listed in things to do everyday?

I just joined this last night and will post more once I find the About me part in all the pages in this great website. You have a lot of great material here. I will check out the other sites too.
Must make Father's Day dinner, but here is some info about fCLO: http://www.mothering.com/discussions/showthread.php?t=592715

Everything nutritional can be done concurrently with medical paradigm. And then see if meds are still needed, check with your health care professionals, of course. Food folate is critical, as methotrexate depletes and alters folate utilization. Read here about folate and 'drug interactions': http://whfoods.org/genpage.php?tname=nutrient&dbid=63

There are natural ways to address 'embarrassing' issues. In the "Forum" (see menu tab at top), select a category and write up your history. You are welcome to be anonymous and change your ID to something less identifying, if you prefer.
