~ Food Has Power ~
I am 43 years old. I grew up on a farm and we used all kind of pesticides. Looking back on it, we also ate very unhealthy. An average breakfast consisted of homemade biscuits with syrup, grits, candied figs, well you get the picture.
I think my problems started around 14 when I started having irregular periods. I gained 40 lbs over the summer one year. I soon figured out that If I dieted and ate no carbs, I could make my peroid come. I still didn't make the connection. So I would go sometimes 8 months with no peroid. WHen I wanted my peroid to come on I would diet. Still no connection. I went to doctor after doctor and all they would tell me was that i was fat and to lose fat and everything would be okay. I finally diagnosed myself with PCOS and Insulin resistance at the age of 33.
Fast forward 9 years(6/2009) I was still suffering from the effects of Insulin resistance with serious abdominal obesity. My weight ballooned up to300lbs. I went on a low carb diet and lost 70 lbs but I still felt horrible.
June 2010, I had the worst headache of my life. I went to the Er with a BP of 220/120. I was quickly admiited and after test I was diagnsosed with Cardiomyopathy and Congestive heart failure from uncontrolled high blood pressure. My world was shattered.I had a 8 years old daughter. I wanted to live to see my grandchildren.
I was discharged on 5 cardiac drugs. I feel as if I have been going down hill since. I am on a beta blocker that actually makes you gain weight. (good for your heart right). These meds makes me sick, weak, nausea, depressed, etc. My BP was still not adequately controlled even on 5 meds. I have been a critcal care nurse for 21 years. It dawned on me that maybe doctors don't know what they are doing afterall???
I read and researched till my eyes hurt. I went to Google Scholar and learned that there are treatments for cardiac disease. My doctor poo-pooed the idea. I started taking Magnesium, Coenzyme and Garlic.
I read about WEP style of eating, I am also suffering from Candida.
Okay I guess that is enough, more next time!
