Rachel, where are you? Can you ship scobys?

Jessica, my friend down the street has kombucha. I can ask her if she has a baby scoby to share.

Pat
Pat, I'll trade you for a batch of fermented carrots or garlic. :)
Anna said she'd be glad to share. She should have one later this week. I inquired whether it can be stored or how to handle pick up.

Love some fermented veggies. :-)

Pat
Hello all,
We live in SC and can share the following cultures:
kefir (dairy)
viili
buttermilk
piima

Jonna
Ok, I'm totally intrigued! What is viili and piima ??

Pat
Types of yoghurt. Viili has a stringy (almost) consistency, but very thick like yoghurt. And piima is a lot like the viili, without the stringy-ness. The piima, when made with cream is fabulous, super thick just like store-bought sour cream. They are both raw cultures, just add to your raw milk and hold back a little for the next batch. Super healthy! :) And delicious to boot! (Not to mention easy!)

Looks like this is viili: http://www.happyherbalist.com/viili.aspx

And piima: http://www.elitealternatives.net/rm_piima11.html

Are you making them on the counter with raw cow's milk?! I would love some!! How could I get some? I could meet dh somewhere when he comes this way, perhaps? Or do you want to mail a bit of each? What are your thoughts?

Thanks!

Pat
That's it, yes! I got the viili from a lady whose parents actually brought it with them when they immigrated to the US 40+ yrs ago. The piima is from her dh's family. Both made and consumed it daily.

If you can meet my dh along the way, that'd be easiest for us. Besides they don't seem to transport all that well. Do you have access to fresh milk to use with them? Just wondering, as we have cows. :)

Jonna

PS How do I send my phone number so that we can arrange a day for dh to bring it with him?
Beyond delighted. I sent you a PM.
