My health came crashing down about 2 years ago when I started having trouble with gut inflammation/pain and intolerance to all carbs, and multiple food/drug sensitivities.  I have been on a very strict anti-candida diet for almost a year, have visited untold numbers of doctors, naturopaths, chiropractors, etc. but no one has been able to make a dent in my symptoms.

From what I can understand, my two MTHFR genetic mutations (C677T and A1298C) cause an inability to detoxify.  In addition, everyone in my family is gluten intolerant, but I didn't think I had a problem with it, so I didn't stop eating it until I was around 45 years old (I'm 51 now).  This probably led to severe gastro issues.

Most recently, I am working with a DAN doctor (I'm not autistic, but these practitioners seem to have the best research backgrounds).  He is an MD who went to "the dark side" of alternative medicine because he has a severely autistic son.  He says I need to get the candida under control before addressing methylation.  I just finished 30 days of Flucanozole, but am positive the candida is still there.

It seems as if my yeast won't go away because I can't detox, and I can't detox because my yeast won't go away.  HELP!  I know that I need to take B12, B6, folate, magnesium, zinc, and TMG, but everything aggravates the candida.  Should I push past this, and let it get worse for awhile in hopes that my methylation kicks in and helps get rid of the candida?  PS The aforementioned supplements have recently resulted in dramatic turnarounds for my 80 year old mother, my 52 year old sister, and her 24 year old son.  We definitely have a genetic issue.  Mine seems a bit more complex, however, because of candida.  Can anyone make suggestions on how you have proceeded with similar health issues?

Gosh, Diflucan is not helpful, imo. Have you read about candida and mercury? Do you have/had any mercury (silver) amalgam fillings in your teeth, a boatload of vaccines, played with mercury as a child, mother with a mouth full of mercury, like me? :-)

When I killed off candida with too much cilantro and kombucha and coconut oil, I had the headache from hell. Insomnia, nausea, felt MUCH worse trying to heal my gut fast. I'm a proponent of natural healing, helping the body to rebalance itself, not attack the "bad guys" paradigm. There are topical, natural alternatives for addressing candida, if you are itching like a mad woman.

Some of us can't detox heavy metals and the candida sequesters the mercury out of circulation. When you kill off the candida, it releases the mercury into the bloodstream to redeposit into our brain, organs, gut, fetus, breastmilk. So, I have no goal of attacking candida. I want to make it obsolete, unnecessary, balanced by other whole food probiotics and microbials.

Here are a bunch of threads to get you started.

Sulfate, molybdenum, vit C and selenium are huge for safe, effective heavy metal detox. Sulfate is available in many topical forms. The forms of the nutrients matters, and it matters if they are in combination or isolated. You can get these nutrients from food. Some are harder to get adequate amounts in food, like magnesium and zinc. I'm just not a supplements gal. But, I trust you to listen to your body.

Share a bit more of your journey, what has/hasn't helped, what has changed, (ie. when were mercury fillings removed), antibiotics, steroids, antacids, antihistamines, food intolerances, etc. But, reading the threads above will provide a lot of information toward healing with whole foods. I prefer to ADD nutrition than eliminate foods, the resulting nutrient deficiencies is a treadmill which is hard to escape, from my observations.

Pat,
I'm with you on not trying to "kill off" candida. I have only taken the Diflucan as a last resort (just in the past 30 days). Before that, I spent 9 month eating coconut oil, garlic, ginger, turmeric, cauliflower, broccoli, and cilantro with no detox reactions. No grains, no alcohol, no sugar, no fruit, no dairy, no vinegar. I hurt mightily when I eat too many sulfur items. Supplements such as magnesium, zinc, c, adrenal support combos, D3, etc. just make intestinal discomfort worse. Every alternative doctor has had a different idea of how to "detox" my liver, gallbladder, colon...., but I only have further gastro issues with each course of treatments, never healing reactions that I read about from others. I only have one mercury filling, but haven't had it taken out. My mother didn't have hers taken out and has made huge progress. I am going to start methyl B12 injections within the next week....along with B6, folate, magnesium, zinc, and TMG. Any additional advice?
I recommend informing yourself more by reading the above links before you do more interventions.
