On 10/10/10, Heal Thyself is hosting a BIG Sharing Cultures Event. If you have kefir grains growing out of your ears by now, please share them on! Consider posting in the regional forums offering whatever cultures you have available which you'd be willing to share locally or mail regionally to other members of Heal Thyself!

It should be cool enough to mail them! Here are instructions for mailing kefir grains cheaply and easily. It costs about $5 for the packaging and postage. I ship out free kefir grains for the $5 to cover my cost. I'll be able to ship grains in early October. http://heal-thyself.ning.com/group/sharingstartercultures/forum/topics/how-to-mail-kefir-grains

Buy a couple of mailer envelopes and help us toward "Kefir In Every Cupboard"!!

Interested in learning how to make homemade probiotics simply and safely? Here are instructions and videos: http://heal-thyself.ning.com/profiles/blogs/homemade-probiotics

Register to post requests or offers of starter cultures. I've mailed out about 60 batches and shared another 20 starters locally. If you could share 1 or 2 starters, think how many people will benefit!

Thanks!

Pat

Hi Pat,
I am new here and I am very interested in growing kefir. I've read everywhere that you should use raw milk. I live in Charlotte, NC and have not been able to find a place where I can get it. Any suggestions on finding a raw milk supplier?

Hi Elizabeth.

I just got some raw milk today. It's from Milky Way Farms. There's a pick up place down 51 heading west almost all the way into SC. I don't pick it up, someone else gets it for me, but it's not too far. You could go to their web site www.scmilkywayfarm.net and find out the location and pick up dates. You also can put in an order online for how much you want. There's another place in SC that sells raw milk, I've been there, it's about a 40 minute ride for me from Matthews, but I forgot the name of it. I think Pat is also talking about water kefir grains here. I have 1 extra starter batch if anyone would want to pick it up from me.

Blessings,
Julie

Hi Elizabeth,

I also live in Charlotte and we buy raw milk. There are lots of options. In what part of town do you live?

Hi Elizabeth! I live in the University Area as well. I often go to SC to get raw milk. It is about 30 minutes from our home. Not too far. Just over the line off of 77 at the Peach Stand.

Hello, I would really appreciate some water or milk kefir grains. I live in NW Arkansas but visit Minneapolis often if someone lives in either place, please let me know so I can get some grains. Otherwise, I'd appreciate mailed grains. Thanks!

I would like 2 milk kefir grains, would you have enough for 2? I live in Washington State and would gladly pay you to mail them to me... I am a newby... so sounds like using raw milk is best, not whole organic milk, do i have that right? Thank you!!

Marlene, I only have water kefir grains at the moment. They reproduce quickly. Milk kefir is a bit slower to reproduce. But, if you get one batch, you'll have enough to share along in a couple of weeks.

Post in the 'west cost' thread and someone probably has grains to share: http://heal-thyself.ning.com/group/sharingstartercultures
