~ Food Has Power ~
How ironic is it that I was trying to run more miles using a method that was supposed to reduce knee pain, and then I fell and tore ligaments in that knee? No more running for me anytime soon! Although I do give a thumbs up to those shoes!!! They did make my joints feel better.
How I did it:
I was visiting the goats. They were in the woods, behind a gate that had a lot of extra fencing jimmy-rigged around the ends and all over the gate, so it was a pain in the rear to get in and out. I had been climbing up and jumping over the gate to get in and out. The gate also has a thin electric wire running alongside the top. Not too many hand-holds or foot-holds. Hands full of carrots that I was taking to the horses. Climbed up, wobbled, and tried to jump, and my left foot got hung up on the wire, and I crashed down on my right leg wrong. Heard a sickening POP! I can still see it in slow motion. Had my phone, called my 10 year old, and she came to help me to the house. We had to navigate underneath another electric fence and get by an attacking rooster!
I'm weighing my options. I tore my ACL and probably MCL. I just had the MRI, so I have till June to figure out what I should do. The doctor gave me 3 options: patellar fix, hamstring, or cadaver splice. I could possibly leave it alone. I have to wait till my appointment to hear how bad it really is. If it's bad, I'm leaning towards surgery, either the hamstring or cadaver. I've been finding a lot of people who have done it. I also enjoy sports and working out, so when this is all over I really don't want to have to limit my activities.
In the meantime:
Did ice for a week, Epsom salt soaks, homeopathic arnica, comfrey & arnica salve. It's been 2 weeks and I can walk without a brace and crutches, but I have to walk funny because if I don't step just right, it gets in the wrong position and hurts. I can tell stuff isn't attached!
Anyone here BTDT recently? I'd love to hear about your experience!
