~ Food Has Power ~
Below is my favorite deodorant recipe. It is AMAZING!!! My husband can ride his bike 70 miles in the blazing summer and still no BO! I also love that it's a great alternative for my girls who are just reaching the age of needing deodorant. It's easy to use and you can add essential oils for a "pretty smell", if you want.
6-8 Tbsp Coconut oil (solid state)
1/4 cup baking soda
1/4 cup arrowroot powder or cornstarch (arrowroot is preferred)
I have been using this for about a year now. I LOVE it. I added some tea tree oil for fragrance and antibacterial properties. I also emptied out a deodorant stick and put this concoction in there. It works just like a regular deodorant stick now. The coconut oil can get a little soft at times, but it still works.
I have been making my own deodorant for several months now and I keep coming back to this same basic recipe but with some essential oils added for my own fragrance preferences. If you come across a recipe that calls for bentonite clay - dont! Although it works wonderfully, probably better even than this recipe, it stains everything green!!
I have tried the old deodorant containers and no matter how thick I make it, it still oozes out the bottom and there's so much waste. So I thought I was going to have to apply with my fingers (again a lot of waste) when I thought about using one of those craft-y popcicle sticks that looks like a tongue depresser. It works perfectly and there is absolutely no waste! I can apply the deodorant all over my entire pit without missing any areas using a very small amount. This batch I have now will last a long time!
One more suggestion...in an effor to make it thicker when I was trying to put it in empty deodorant bottles, I used Cocoa Butter - again, don't. I was craving chocolate all day long at work for several days before I realized my arm pits smelled like chocolate!!
