~ Food Has Power ~
Just hoping for some feedback on my son's bowel movements. He turned 1 on Jan. 1. Due to my illness this past fall, he has been on donor milk since September. Since he likes table food and I don't know how long I will be able to get donor milk, we have encouraged him with table food. I try to follow the theory that he only eats what he has the right teeth for, so he gets fruits and veggies, including legumes. No grains yet. No sugar, obviously. Lots of water.
He pees at least once an hour, sometimes more. Trying to EC and it seems impossible. And he poops 3, 4, 5 times a day. It's nuts. Sometimes it is more solid, sometimes more runny, certainly always full of recognizable bits of fiber like raisins or apricots. Is it normal for someone this age to go so often? He doesn't seem to have any trouble with food, no rashes or reactions or anything. Just loves it. And he still gets 24-30 ounces of breastmilk a day (which is amazing considering that it is all donated).
Thanks,
Sarah

Something that I noticed with my son... I had a dip in my milk supply around 5 months. It was bad enough that I had to resort to my frozen milk supply. I started with the oldest bag first, pumped two days after he was born. (I was afraid I was getting an infection or something since I had a swollen lump on top of engorgement.)
Anyhow, he started pooping much more than I was used to. I figured it was because of the colostrum/young milk, which is designed to help clean out the body of meconium. So how long has the donor been nursing/pumping? Breastmilk is really amazing, it adapts as the child grows and it's needs change. Unlike formula! I'm so glad you're doing donor milk over formula. :)

That makes total sense! The moms I am getting milk from have much younger babies, going through bigger growth spurts. Of course I would love to get all milk from babies his age, but I feel fortunate enough to get the breastmilk at all!
Thanks,
Sarah
