I wasn't sure what category to put this under... But I would like some info on what kind of water is best to drink. I have a friend who goes to get reverse osmosis water and fills up glass jugs every week. I've been using a filter that attached to our fridge, but it was recently checked by our electo- dermal screener, and she said it wasn't good. Now I'm using bottled spring water but I'm not do happy about the plastic it comes in. Is a Brita filter any good?

ALKALINE ANTIOXIDANT WATER

I have heard the Reverser Osmosis water is not good.  Our Naturepathic Doctor has a Kangen Water filter.  I am just learning about it but he said it is like the opposite of RO.  It brings the water to more alkaline state, I think.   but I want to know more about it.  I have looked it up and read about it some.  Anyone else hear of our use Kangen Water?

I like this information as it is listed here.  It sounds like Kangen water.  I want to hear more about it from other sources.  I am happy to find this here.  I am guessing that Pat removed the parts about the product.

Gina. It is an advert straight off the Purify Self website. I've not suspended anyone for blatant disregard for repeatedly advertising in posts on Heal Thyself yet. Purify Self continues to disregard the Heal Thyself policy of no self-promotion posts.

I would caution you not to believe everything you are told about "alkalizing water" from naturopaths profiting from selling it either.

Gina, the body is alkalized by foods with positive ion minerals: calcium, phosphorus, sodium, magnesium, potassium.  Eating whole foods: greens, bone broths, nettles infusions, etc. will provide nutrients needed and provide positive ion minerals.  No expensive water purifier or "alkalizing water" needed.

Purify, please delete the business solicitation and reference.

Alkaline is the English synonym for basic, since Bronsted Lowry acid - base theory of 1923 the term alkali in chemistry was restricted to those salts containing alkali earth metal elements especially for soluble bases. Alkalis are known to have pH (potential of hydrogen) greater than 7 that dissolve in water such as bicarbonate. Alkali comes from the Arabic al-qalyan meaning base, this term was often used with pharmaceuticals by the Moors (Aboriginal Africans) who early occupation of the Iberien Peninsula, around 711A.D. You can visit the oldest pharmacy in Europe which is now a museum, located in Penaranda de Duero Spain which was established by the Moors, using ground coral which is highly alkaline for its beneficial effects on the heart and brain. Alkalinity measure the ability of a solution to neutralize acids. Dr. A. Szent-Gyorgy stated, "The body is alkaline by design but acidic by function". Every living cell within our body creates metabolized waste which is acid. The nutrients from our food are delivered to each cell and they burn with oxygen to provide energy for us to live. The burned nutrients are called metabolized waste. Whether you eat the best of foods or the worst, all foods generate metabolized waste. Foods are classified as alkaline or acid, based on the oxidized remains of our food and the amount and quality of the waste products it produces. Alkaline Foods produces very little waste and acidic foods produces large amounts of waste, the more acid the more metabolic waste. Most of our cells go through metabolism and these old dead cells also become waste products.

Our body will discharge this waste through urine, bile, and perspiration. Basically, all waste products are acid. Should we eat some acid foods for Balance?

No,  we know that our body must maintain alkalinity to survive. We have to remember that balance is neutral, neither alkaline nor acid. Our blood pH level is 7.4 and the cellular fluid level is about 7.2. In spite of the fact that our cells produce acidic wastes constantly, our body fluids must maintain an alkaline pH level to survive. Our food must be alkaline; it’s the only way to neutralize the acid our bodies produce.

Our bodies work very hard to dispose of acidic waste, eating acidic foods makes it harder and compound the acid making it even harder for our bodies to eliminate waste. Our bodies produce lactic acid and carbon dioxide through movement, this makes the blood acidic. Eating acid foods containing phosphoric acid and sulfuric acid causes oxidation in the body.
They are removed through urine, perspiration, respiration and defecation. All of these have a low pH level except bile. When the bile becomes acidic it can cause colon and rectal cancers. Also when we exhale, releasing carbon dioxide, we are ridding the body of carbonic acid, which also causes acidic waste. With all it’s effort our body gives toward the removal of acid waste, we still make more waste than our body can get rid of. When we retain acids in our tissues and organs we begin to spoil and die. With proper elimination of these acids from our blood, organs and tissue we can live a long and healthy life.

 

WATER FOR VITAL HEALTH

Water sustains all forms of human life. Your body is 70-80% water. Water adjusts the body's temperature and assists in digestion. It removes toxins from the body, and also makes necessary body fluids. The qualities and properties of the water we drink can determine the quality of our health.

Without enough fluids, your body panics and clings to fluid, resulting in: loss of thirst, weight gain, swollen hands and feet, and constipation (the body will remove needed water from the colon). Diuretics can force out retained water, but will take essential nutrients with them. Water is a natural diuretic (prevents fluid retention). Water is responsible for transporting nourishment to every living cell and is the key to all bodily functions. Water is a 'magic potion' for optimal physical fitness. About three quarters of the human brain is water.

HOW MUCH WATER SHOULD I DRINK?

 

Under normal conditions, the average person requires 1.5 to 2.5 liters of water a day. Optimally, you should consume 1/2 an ounce of water per pound of body weight per day. For example, a 100 lb. person needs 50 ounces (seven 8-ounce glasses) every day.

 

 

BUT I DRINK LOTS OF OTHER FLUIDS, IE. TEA, JUICE, POP, ETC. DO I STILL NEED THIS MUCH WATER?

 

When you consume water that has added flavors and ingredients, your body must first filter out these additives before it can use the pure water to detoxify and nourish your cells. This means extra work for your liver, kidneys, and intestines. By starting with pure clean alkaline water, you ease the strain on these organs and free them up to work on cleansing and filtering your food - not to mention the highly acidic nature of carbonated drinks ! !

"I was a steam engineer and I learned from the pH balance of 6.9 which is slightly on the acid side of life. So I concluded that if 6.9 is acid and 7.1 is alkaline, well I began to look at the menus of all the healers in America, they had peppermint-acid. They had aloe vera-acid. They had echinacea-acid. They had don quoi-acid. Every herb that they used, with the exception of a few, burdock and yellow dock, which are alkaline, and dandelion, the rest of them are acid.

 

So I said well where did American healers get their menu? As I looked at their menu and I looked at the European menu, it is the same. I said oh my God, something is wrong with this picture because they are both in error. But how would they examine what Europe says is true? You don't have any other perspective to put it against to say oh no, this cannot work because I have this as an example. You have no example. I had nature's way. So when I was presented with the mechanical way of treating disease I could see the difference because I had the natural way. With the natural way it becomes a barometer. I could measure the unnatural. But if you only have the unnatural, you cannot measure because that's all you have. How would you measure it? STAY ALKALINE

Does anyone know anything about the Berkey systems? We are considering ordering one especially with the water situation in our state.

I want a Berkey. I've read positive reports because you can use it without electricity, it is portable and it removes pathogens from the water, in addition to removing contaminates. They are expensive. I think Amazon probably has the best prices from what I've seen.

The Berkey Guy has 5% off  with code "missionary" or code "alex jones" and the flouride/arsenic filters are 50% off. I am thinking of getting the shower filter too.Prices on Amazon seem to be closest to the same price as two of their distributors.

Check about "chloramine" for shower issues too. I think most shower filters don't address it.

"Alkaline water recipe:  1 Pitcher (64 ounces) of clean filtered water (if tap water is all that is available, use that. The cleaner the better) 1 Organic Lemon, washed, cut into eighths 1 tsp Himalayan Pink Salt (this is optional and will mineralize your Alkaline Water)  Directions: Fill pitcher, add in Lemon wedges (do not squeeze!). Then add 1 tsp. Himalayan Pink Salt, cover, and let sit overnight (8-12 hrs.) at room temperature. Wake up and drink 3 glasses first thing for best Alkaline balance in your body."
