Eat beets. If they turn your urine pink/red, then you have low stomach acid. Stomach acid is a very important first step in digestion. Without enough, you can't absorb B12, and you have trouble absorbing zinc as well as several other nutrients. If you don't have adequate stomach acid, proteins aren't broken down properly, and so they can cause trouble in the small intestine and/or get absorbed whole into the bloodstream.




Gluten and casein are famous for being addictive because they form opiod-like substances. Stomach acid is necessary to prevent them from becoming opiods.

Histamine helps trigger the release of stomach acid. Histamine is found in several foods, especially ferments, so pile on another reason to eat ferments with every meal. Adequate zinc is also necessary to produce stomach acid (remember what's not absorbed well without it?).

Demetra, I was going to ask the same thing.  I don't see where anyone has answered your question, so posting again.  My stools were dark pink, but the urine was fine.  I'm assuming it's similar, but obviously a different process??  I ate nearly 1/2 lb of beets, had 2 urines without altered color, then bm in next am was dark pink while urine still appeared normal (although the color from the bm started changing the liquid in the toilet).  Thanks for any input!  I do drink 1 pint of water kefir daily and am sporadic at best with my sauerkraut.

pink stool just means that you had less calcium in your meals close to the time you ate the beets. no worries. :-)

I plan on doing the beat test soon. If urine turn pick this is bad? Unsure if I understood this right?

correct, pink = inadequate stomach acid.

Cabbage juice, sauerkraut, zinc, apple cider vinegar, fermented vegetables, B12 all help to improve stomach acid naturally.

Spices, teas and herbs, i.e. camomile, ginger, cinnamon, nutmeg, nettles and other "bitters" etc. stimulate digestion also.

oh my last summer my whole family was eating beats a lot and had pink...... I am so grateful to have you and the program. I didn't realize this was bad. That why I was questioning this. Thank you. I brought beat plan today hopefully today I will find out again. Then go from there.

I eat lots of beets as they produce nitrates which are then broken into nitric oxide i think and really help my bile production. test i like. my pee does not turn pink!

as i am on a genetic diet, i have severe mthfr, i am working to reduce histamine. i do not eat fermenteds at this point.

i am under tremendous stress and this really effects my health.

i will soon need a leaky gut protocol. is there one on this site?

btw, given my disease status, there is much here i cannot take and there is much i can learn. the 10 pm bed routine has been revolutionary for me. many thanks, np
