I'm wondering if anyone is utilizing oil pulling as part of their detox regiment?

I started this a couple days ago while having some phlegm/sinus blockages.... Then I got the the "flu" yesterday, but might have been "on my way there" already due to some illnesses going around my house.
Its hard for me to know how its affecting me, as I didn't start it while "healthy".....

Anyway, would love to talk to others about this if they are using it....

I am planning to try it but haven't yet. How long are you doing it each morning?
I usually get a good solid 15 min in before I need to talk :P
Kathrynn (6) has been *really* patient with it all, which has been so helpful. :)
I'm hoping to move it up to 20 minutes.

Yesterday I did it at night also, and today i'm planning on three times, since i'm sick and wanting to get things moving through me. The "instructions" say doing it 3x a day will increase the detox process....
I believe Elizabeth (PB) has done this. I'm not clear on the benefits.

But, have you heard of the "Master Tonic"? http://www.mothering.com/discussions/showthread.php?t=1017724&h...

I love it!

Pat
my housemates and i (where I used to live) used to make these every season. my stash is about up so i'll be looking into making some.
We used a recipe based on Dr Richard Schultz's Master Tonic, but i'm sure they are all fairly similar.
Thanks for the reminder!
I have been using coconut oil, even though it is not one of the two oils that are ideally used . But I have read accounts of others using coconut oil, so i feel good about it. :)
I would like to get some sesame oil, but i'm trying to be cost effective at this point. ;)

I think sunflower is supposed to be the most neutral oil. I think i did read safflower oil being used by some folks.

I am not having any real troubles using coconut oil.... It is a bit odd to have oil in your mouth. :P
So i'd just like to give an update......

I have been doing it from 1-3x a day, depending on the timing of my life. :P
I've been doing it for 5 days. There are no OMG LIFE CHANGING results, however, i really do feel like it has shifted something with my metabolism, digestion and cravings/hunger, and my energy level is VERY different. I just realized this yesterday when I found myself not exhuasted after the day, even though i got VERY little sleep due to the last stages of my illness (horrible night time coughing).
My skin also feels and looks great.

This has all occurred while undergoing a brief illness and food changes, so of course i can't attribute all these things to oil pulling.
My first reply... hope I am doing this correctly.

I used to oil pull about two years ago and loved it! My teeth and gums looked and felt better, and I felt oil pulling was very calming for me... lots of benefits. My favorite oil to use was coconut oil, but also tried sweet almond oil and sunflower oil. I read a ton on the CureZone OP forum before starting and one of the things the posters over there say is to switch the type of oil you use every so often. Unfortunately I became reactive to coconut and couldn't use CO anymore, and then with everything going on with my health (figuring out the allergy stuff, drastically changing diet to avoid foods, etc.) I stopped OP altogether.

Now that I'm doing the JMT/NAET treatments and was able to add coconut to my diet again, I've started OP again (just this week!). I really love it. My gums are kind of a mess so I'm hoping this will help coax them to better health.
Hope Lisa will reply to this. But, if you have mercury fillings, the coconut oil could cause some die-off of candida and release mercury stores.

I wouldn't recommend doing the OP with coconut oil a lot while nursing.

Pat
well, lol, my situation is a bit confusing.

i started OPing around the same time that i came down with a pretty intense flu. I had not had the flu for 15-20 ??? years, and so it kinda kicked my butt. i think some of what i was experiencing could have very well been detox from foods (foods that i stopped eating as well as foods i was eating). AND i may have been experiencing some detox from OPing too. I have read A TON about OPing, and talked to a few people, and feel fairly certain that i did not experience mercury detoxification from OPing. But i don't know for sure. I've been cooking and consuming coconut oil in my smoothies for years, so that was not a change for me.

I just don't know.

What i do know is that after the flu left, i was left feeling GREAT. And even while I was experiencing the flu i had incredible energy levels and shifts in my metabolism (which people often attribute to OPing). Also, I had been around people who then came down with Strep, and either fought it via OPing or didn't catch it. (i've read about OPing getting rid of strep very quickly).

My skin has felt great. My mouth feels great. My sex drive has shifted. My energy continues to be great, although this seasonal stuff has been toying w/ my "allergies" a bit so i have been a tad bit more tired. (but i've also had a couple nights of interrupted sleep so......./shrug)

I'm looking forward to changing oils next month and trying something different.

I'm looking forward to reading about others' experiences.....

I have recently read something about mercury fillings and oil pulling. You should use clay also. I am getting ready to purchase Bruce Fife's book http://www.amazon.com/Oil-Pulling-Therapy-Detoxifying-Cleansing/dp/...
