Hey guys, I have a question for you that might be off topic, as this isn't a food related question (at least I don't think it is.) My son has been getting nosebleeds for two days now. They are getting shorter in duration, but the first one lasted almost 20 minutes. He was so scared, it was the middle of the night. He's 4, and when he started crying I thought it was another of his nightmares. He came into me before i got to him, and his face and hands were covered with blood. Thankfully I was able to get it to stop. Then, the next day (Yesterday), it bled three more times. Today, so far only once. But I don't know what causes it or what do to to prevent it from happening again. A friend who is a nurse told me to get afrin or something, but I am against any unnecessary medications. I am also new to holistic methods, and used to consider something like that a necessary medication. I am learning, and need advice on what to do for his nosebleeds. THANK YOU!

Shellie :)

Has he had more Omega 3 fatty acids? Vit K foods help control blood clotting.  http://www.whfoods.com/genpage.php?tname=nutrient&dbid=112

Reading that list, I can safely say he has had no vitamin K foods in a while :( he's not a pickey eater, but his brother is, and he mimics. I will try to push some today. I don't think he has had any extra omega 3's.

I can add greens to smoothies most easily. And pureed greens/veggies can be added to spaghetti sauce, tacos, meatloaf, etc.

Well, my middle son can taste all of that, so I have a tendency to not do it. He has shunned entire dinners before because something tastes "off". But for the little guy, the smoothies will work. How much do you add that you don't taste it, but it does something good?

Just depends. I add 2 cups of greens to smoothies. Maybe start with a leaf and work up. But, banana, mango, avocado, cinnamon and cayenne shift the taste buds. Beet helps to keep a smoothie red.

Vitamin K drops (e.g., Thorne) are tasteless and can be used therapeutically until you transition to very green smoothies.

My son was getting nosebleeds that lasted a long time for years. Then I took him to a classical homeopath and we used the remedy she recommended, which was also for some of his other issues -- eczema and anxiety. His nosebleeds have slowed way down.
