~ Food Has Power ~
Hi all. I've been under tremendous stress over the past 18 months, with the end of my marriage and subsequent custody battle. My ex was/is very controlling and manipulative. I've been taking steps to heal myself and take back control. I have an awesome supportive boyfriend now, as well as family and friends to help in my journey.
Since weaning my 3 year old last year, I've gained weight around my middle, and my small breasts seem smaller than they've ever been before! I have increasing facial hair on my chin, and acne that never resolves. I've had a high sex drive since separating from my husband, my skin seems saggier & rougher, hair coarser as well. So all of this obviously points to high testosterone. I just went to the dr yesterday to begin a plan to fix my metabolism and emotional state, and she suggested high testosterone when I asked about the acne. I can't believe I hadn't thought of it before!
I suspect adrenal and thyroid issues as well, and intend to have tests to confirm. I also suspect an issue with zinc, as I had been on BCP (POPs) through my teens and 20s. My hair started going gray very early on (like 21?), and has seemed to double this past year under high stress. I also had PUPPP while pregnant in 2010, and I understand that is related to liver malfunction. I also have keratosis pilaris on my arms and thighs.
I've been reading about metabolism through Matt Stone and 180degreehealth.com, and plan on taking a TBS of coconut oil daily, supplementing with zinc, iodine, epsom salt. Exercise is difficult for me to decide on. I think I am going to walk more, stretch/yoga, and do squats. I would like to add weight training but don't know where to start. I don't want to exacerbate adrenal fatigue by wearing myself out.
I obviously need to address the stress and I'm going to get as much sleep as possible. I use marijuana to help me relax and get to sleep when otherwise I'd rather stay up late watching TV. I've cut out facebook and plan to reduce caffeine, alcohol and tobacco (I smoke occasionally/socially).
I am overwhelmed with trying to tackle this when I can't even seem to live my daily life without anxiety and emotional upset. I guess my main questions are:
Thanks so much for any guidance!!
