Hello, I'm brand new here.  Just came over from MDC on a suggestion from a member.  Thanks Pat!

I just wanted to find out if anyone here is familiar with the role that a hiatal hernia can play in malabsorption and disbiosis.  Anyone else dealing with this?  Has anyone found a natural health practitioner who can manually adjust a hernia?

I have a rather severe hiatal hernia which seems to sabotage all my efforts to improve my nutrition.  I have had it successfully manually adjusted once and the relief was enormous, but it only lasted a short while.  My stomach promptly herniated again that very night.  The person who did the adjustment can no longer do it because of her own health issues, and I haven't been able to find anyone else who knows the technique.

This is apparently a much more common disorder than most people are aware of, and it can truly destroy a person's health if not dealt with.

Do you consume dairy, or wheat/gluten?

Do you consume any raw juices, fermented vegetables or whole food probiotics?

What about magnesium, zinc sources?

Have you considered Tai Chi or Qi Gong for the mechanical benefits?

Do you avoid liquids with meals?

The article is wonderful! Thanks for sharing.

Hi Pat,

Right now I'm not doing very well with my diet. I've been working a very stressful job with unpredictable hours. It's only temporary though and will soon end. Hopefully I can get back on track.

I used to drink raw goat's milk kefir, which really made me feel good. I lost my source of goat milk for a long time, and only just recently found another source. Also, need to find a source of kefir grains.

I take Calm as my magnesium supplement. It does help some. I have zinc in my Silica supplement. I usually avoid liquids with meals, but not always.

I've gotten lazy about the raw juices. I need to start that again.

So, in short, I just need to get on the ball and start taking better care of myself again. But I sure would love to find a massage therapist or chiropracter that could pull my stinking stomach out of my esophagus!

Just toss 2 cups of frozen fruit in with 2 cups organic baby greens in the blender. Easier than cleaning the juicer. ;-)

Maybe toss in some lemon juice and mineral water.

You can ask for kefir grains (water or milk) on the Sharing Cultures group above. http://heal-thyself.ning.com/group/sharingstartercultures

Just need 1 tablespoon a day to have huge microbial benefits!

Wheat is difficult to digest, especially with low zinc. And causes the gasses to bubble up and make reflux pain worse.

Good ideas, thanks! And yes, I know how bad wheat can be if it's not prepared properly. I think the fact that I've been eating too much of it has contributed greatly to my discomfort.
