~ Food Has Power ~
I know what healthy poop should be like for infants. I know what it should be like for adults. I'm getting there with how much I've been working on my gut. My son never had healthy EBF poop because of intolerances, tongue-tie, oversupply, etc, and we've been working those out. Eggs, probably his worst problem, has only been out of my diet for about 3 months. Now he's 13 months old and really likes solids and wants them a lot, but he hardly digests anything. The main things I give him are meat and chicken broth (with a whole lot of veggie scraps) mixed with breast milk kefir (or fermented vegetable juice when I don't make time to express my milk, but everything else that goes in comes out looking a lot like it went in - apples, bananas, oranges, broccoli, carrots, sauerkraut, roasted garlic, blueberries, almond flour bread, wool sock fuzz and whatever else he can find on the floor (We try to keep it pretty clean, but I seem to find sock fuzz in his diaper about once a day.) He's totally gluten and grain free, dairy free, soy free, egg free, and corn free and always has been besides a few accidents (and one purposeful introduction to eggs).
I kinda feel like if he can't digest it, he shouldn't be eating it, but that's harder now that he knows what a banana is. He gets tired of broth and wants something else, preferably whatever we're having. Really, he's a GAPS-leaning (with a little bit of fruit) paleo baby, but I was kinda hoping that he'd be digesting stuff by now. I don't know if it would be better to give him natural foods when he asks for them, even though he's not digesting them well or push him to just nurse again or drink more broth if he wants something. I've been going back and forth, push him to nurse or drink broth if I can and just give it to him if he is really fixated on it and it's not on the ABSOLUTELY NOT list.
What do I do? Mainstream stuff says it's OK for babies to not really digest things. My mama sense says he should be, and I'd like to keep him as EBF as possible until he does, but how do I help him get there?
