I was diagnosed with PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome) about five months ago. I found this out after not having a period in six months and I wasn't pregnant, but trying. Now I am to the point where I just want to get healthy and manage/overcome PCOS. I am a missionary right now so I am not in the US. This makes it a little harder, but I am thankful for the advancement in the medical field here. I also have back problems. Two weeks ago I started rehabilitation (therapy) for my lumbar spine area. today I found out that I have some neck problems too. SO now I am doing therapy for that. I have always been a health conscious person, but int he last few months I have been doing more research. My hormones are out of balance, I am overweight, I have high Cholesterol, I feel tired most of the time, I get nauseous a lot , and I need to be careful about what I do as exercise due to my back. Let's just say I'm a little overwhelmed. I have been doing a lot of study on the net about all this, but their are a lot of opinions. Can anyone give me some advice? Thanks for your time and help.

My adult dd has PCOS diagnosed 2 years ago. She is not herself into a ton of nutritional type helps but out of what she has tried including homeopathy and a regular "hormone person", so far the only thing that helped appreciably was acupuncture.  Rather than a lack of periods, hers was diagnosed when she started a never ending period. Her periods now cycle though they are still really heavy. It took about a year of acupuncture (with someone experienced in dealing with hormonal issues) for that to happen.

I hope I don't sound discouraging but this has been one of the most intractable conditions that i have ever seen.  I would be very interested if anyone else has effected change with a nutritional approach. I think it is possible that someone working with bioidentical hormones might be able to help but the person she saw seemed to only have experience with menopausal women so she really only helped to have a definite diagnosis.

I had neck problems for many yrs.  2 yrs ago had "atlas profilax" therapy 3 times and my neck pain has completely subsided .  cranial sacral massage also helps with my lower back pain.  you could search on  internet natural vitamins and supplements to take for PCOS.  search PCOS or "decrease inflammation naturally". If I were concerned with decreasing inflammation, I would consider  vitamins such as hydrocobalamin 2000IUs (B 12), a folate preparation (might want to consider a product that provides MTHFR not just folic acid such as "folapro") and B6 or a good multivitamin.  curcumin/tumeric is considered a great antioxidant.

I would stop eating gluten immediately.

I do not know in what country you are living;I would try to find a practitioner who is trained in "functional medicine" http://www.functionalmedicine.org/practitioner_search.aspx?id=117

can you add exercise into your routine? fatigue is such a limiting symptom--it overpowers one.   just walking would help.  and before I took  statin, I would re read:

best of luck, madelyn
