I was reading on the mothering board and got the sense that some folks, when working to clear their detox pathways, will eat healing foods that they or their children have reacted to in the past.

I am wondering a lot about this b/c my ds seems to be releasing a lot of stuff--runny nose, watery eyes, etc. He had a cough and cold over a week ago that has morphed into this, but I think this is all connected to our diet changes/additions. We've added multiple new things that I'm sure have been helping us both detox (I was feeling a little headache-y and brain foggy for a couple days, I'm sure due to the changes. My list of additions is here: http://heal-thyself.ning.com/forum/topics/healing-leaky-gut-with-food?page=3&commentId=2814160%3AComment%3A1888&x=1#2814160Comment1888)

I stopped giving him brazil nuts b/c I thought he was reacting to them (pinhead rash on his bum) but continued the small amount of coconut oil (which has seemed ok). I guess I'm having trouble figuring out if what's going on (runny nose, red ring, rash, etc.) are signs of detox/die-off or food sensitivity kind of reactions.

The next food I would like to add into his/our diet for the healing benefits (per your recs) is raw goat's milk kefir. When I try adding this, I'm wondering if I'll be able to tell the difference between a reaction and normal detox/die-off signs/symptoms should they occur, and if I/we should just continue making and drinking it even if he reacts?

Please lmk if you need me to clarify--I'm having trouble being clear today!

TIA!

Lauren :)

I was going to ask the same thing. I will be watching this chat.

Runny nose is more likely an environmental allergen, imo. Anything changed lately? Played outside more, pollen, pet dander, new carpet, rainy a lot?

Thanks for all of the awesome links Pat! Our snow just melted and it's been a bit warmer lately--rainy yesterday I think. Maybe I'll get an air purifier...they helped *me* in the past when I had environmental allergies.
It is most important to keep the bedroom allergen free, since we spend the most time there. We have a HEPA filter. Also, keep the beedroom with no pets, limited stuffed animals, door closed at all times, dust mite cover on the mattress and pillows, vacuum daily)

We have always just purchased a top of the line HEPA air cleaner from Sears. That way we know they'll have the filters available long term. We have two of these:

And we bought this vacuum cleaner. It is rated as a "best buy" by Consumer Reports. It has a HEPA filter built in:

And for a mattress cover, we bought what they have at Walmart. It is sorta paper-cloth and keeps mites out. Get them for the pillows also. They are washable.

Pat, we recently moved our mattress to the living room/dining room/kitchen area (small apartment) so are now sleeping in the room where we do everything (cook, play, eat, etc.). The front door to the outside is probably 10 feet from our bed...

It really is helpful for us to have this set up, but maybe this is where the issues are coming from? It's been probably a little over a month since the switch--do you think that it could have taken 3 or more weeks for environmental reactions to this move to occur? Hmmm...We may need to change things around again!

Lauren
I'd try a HEPA air cleaner before moving anything. See if that helps. :-)
