Hello everyone and welcome to the group! So I've been filling out my collection of essential oils and and I want to use these wonderful smelling things on everything!
Found a cool link on Pinterest that shows how to make a great linen spray that I'll post later. Not a body product but still a cool use for the oils....

I am currently using ACV as a rinse with alternating between a bar of soap I made (but am not happy with the recipe) or Baby Castile Soap. They are both unscented. But I am not thrilled with the results. My hands feel funny after with both and my scalp is very dry.

I have had a lot of trouble getting coconut oil into my scalp with out having the greasiest hair for weeks b/c of it. So I wont be trying that anymore.

I also am working on Dry Skin with Diet and herbs slowly, One of the reasons I left Poo is becuase it was making my skin worse but what I am doing now is making my scalp worse....
Non-toxic cosmeticstag:heal-thyself.ning.com,2011-03-01:2814160:Topic:242182011-03-01T16:32:23.073ZChristine Andersonhttp://heal-thyself.ning.com/profile/ChristineAnderson

Hi all,

Anyone know of fairly safe cosmetics. I've read about Ava Anderson and some others. Has anyone had any experience with these or like any that you use. I'm so tired of slowly poisioning myslef with the cosmetics on the market and spending tons of money for those poisons. Currently I've limited my use unless it's for something important or work.

Below is my favorite deodorant recipe. It is AMAZING!!! My husband can ride his bike 70 miles in the blazing summer and still no BO! I also love that it's a great alternative for my girls who are just reaching the age of needing deodorant. It's easy to use and you can add essential oils for a "pretty smell", if you want.

Deodorant Recipe

Ingredients:

6-8 Tbsp Coconut oil (solid state)
1/4 cup baking soda
1/4 cup arrowroot powder or cornstarch (arrowroot is preferred)

Directions:

Combine equal portions of baking soda & arrowroot powder.

Slowly add coconut oil and work it in with a spoon or hand blender until it maintains a firm but pliable texture. It should be about the same texture as commercial deodorant, solid but able to be applied easily. If it is too wet, add further arrowroot powder/cornstarch to thicken.

You can either scoop this recipe into your old deodorant dispensers or place in a small container with lid and apply with fingers with each use. Makes about 1 cup. This recipe lasts about 3 months for two people with regular daily use.

So a friend of mine went to an whole foods (not the store) products African festival in Atlanta. She met a a lady who gave a really cool recipe for a facial.
Ingredients:
Dry milk
Lemon juice
The leaves from a green tea bag

So you mix all these items together then apply them to your face and let it dry. When you rinse the face your face should have that wonderful "plump" feeling!
So the one thing I don't keep in the house is the dry milk. I'll be headed to the store to pick some up! Dry Brushingtag:heal-thyself.ning.com,2011-01-12:2814160:Topic:162552011-01-12T12:47:15.000ZChristine Andersonhttp://heal-thyself.ning.com/profile/ChristineAnderson

<span class="font-size-3" style="font-family: "Georgia","serif"; color: black; font-size: 7pt;">Now I have had this brush for maybe three years and never remembered using it. (I know it's a shame. I bought it on a whim.) Yesterday I was flipping through a natural catalog and came across an article on dry brushing and thought, "hmmm, I have one of those brushes, I'm gonna brush it up tonight." Let me tell you something ladies. This brushing thing is raspberry jam on buttered toast! (That's Shekinah talk for "wonderful")

<span class="font-size-3" style="font-family: "Georgia","serif"; color: black; font-size: 7pt;">Normally during the winter months I suffer from dry, itchy skin. I decided to try something new this winter and that was taking my baths and showers in luke warm water instead of hot. I'm cold natured so hot would be my choice but I found when I bathe in hot my skin gets dryer and itchier no matter how much lotion I put on. The lukewarm water was an adjustment, but being able to be itch free has made all the difference. And now the dry brushing was just the icing on the cake. My skin felt so much softer that I didn't even need lotion. And let me tell you nearly all black people need lotion! Especially in the winter! I'll use some coconut oil to moisturize today. If anyone knows anything more about dry brushing please speak up. I’m already a fan I just wanna know more if there is any info.

I was thinking of doing s coconut oil and olive oil lotion with a touch of vanilla oil for scent. It will be a bit oily but it will smell great. Really easy to make and good for right out of the shower. If using for an infant leave out the vanilla oil. It would make them smell great but they be a bit sensitive to it. Plus it should still smell good.
