Yes, we use farm fresh eggs from chickens allowed to freely roam the farm. Salmonella is more of a concern with factory farm chickens :) Plus, I am of the opinion that so long as one's immune system is functioning well, salmonella is not a huge concern.

Pam (PJ) Suver said:

I made the video of the canning jars with my cheap blender just to demonstrate and help folks who don't have a VitaMix. I haven't made smoothies that way since i got my VitaMix.
I made the video of the canning jars with my cheap blender just to demonstrate and help folks who don't have a VitaMix. I haven't made smoothies that way since i got my VitaMix. If you only have a cheap blender, the canning jar method helps you not have to keep stopping and scraping down the sides - which drove me NUTS with regular blenders and is one thing i like much more about the VitaMix. As I mentioned, VM can do things regular blenders just can't. You can throw carrots, celery, tough greens like Kale,Chard, etc. into the VitaMix and still get a smooth "juice" consistency. In a regular blender you will have unappealing strands of fiber remaining in your drink. Also, it comes with like a 7 year warranty. I am not one to buy expensive things, and like i said i fully expected to not be able to justify keeping it, but I LOVE that we eat things everyday that we otherwise wouldn't simply b/c this machine is so good at disguising it. I never eat greens and don't enjoy them, for example, but they "disappear" in these smoothies...and with no "grit." I also save money on almond flour (which i use a lot) by grinding almonds in the VitaMix. Technically, you're supposed to do that in a different "dry blending" container that they sell, but i'm too cheap so i make do (and the things i make it doesn't matter if there's a few chunks of nuts). Oh, and my FAVORITE healthy dessert is the fruit sorbets i make that contain ONLY frozen fruit, which is great since i try to stay away from dairy. I'll post the link separately so others will see it. YOu can also make hot soups right in the blender, but we've never had much of a need for that. Honestly, just check out their website. They have tons of videos demonstrating the uses of the machine and they are ALL true; it's not a bunch of hype. Oh, and I HATED cleaning my juicer....it was this big "to do," so we didn't have juice as often as we do now. We just rinse the thing out and let it air dry for the next day. Also liked that VitaMix is made in America ;) All of that said, i have no means of comparison to other heavy duty blenders on the market. For instance, there's one by Montell Williams that sells for half the price. We have it in retail stores in my town. If you have them for sale there, you could always buy one and try it out so at least it would be returnable without paying any shipping. Also, if you have Costco or any health stores, one of them might sell it - which would also give you the option of returning it without being out any money.
Christy,

Christy,

What do you like about the Vita Mix as opposed to other blenders? I see in your other video (thanks for the tip about using the canning jar BTW) you use a cheaper blender.

I am looking at getting either a blender or juicer, leaning toward a heavy duty blender, but want to make sure I am getting a decent one since some are really pricey.

Thanks,

I LOVE my VitaMix. They are expensive, so i bought it at my local Costco store where i could return it easily for a full refund if i didn't want to keep it (and avoid shipping charges). Well, that was over a year ago and i still use it every day. My favorite thing is that, with enough water, you can puree greens into COMPLETELY smooth "juice" consistency without losing any of the fiber and without dealing with the mess and hassle of juicers (like the GreenStar I used to use). It's quick, easy, versatile and a cinch to clean! And the thing is indestructible!! And powerful. I enjoy NOT having to stop and scrape my smoothies down like i used to do with a regular blender, too. I could go on and on, but let me know if you have any particular questions

Pam Genant said:

That was really nice Christy! Do you like your Vita Mix?
